News has emerged today that singer-bassist Peter Steele from Type O Negative has died from heart failure on Wednesday. News about his death emerged just before midnight through Mistress Juliya from Fuse TV via Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey and was later confirmed by the band's keyboardist Josh Silver. Born Petrus T. Ratajczyk, the hulking frontman of gothic thrash metallers Type O Negative first played in Fallout and Carnivore in his early years as a musician before forming his current band with Josh Silver, Kenny Hickey and Sal Abruscato (replaced by Johnny Kelly when he quit to join Life Of Agony) as The Drab Four played a combination of thrash, gothic, doom and heavy metal throughout their illustrious career producing albums such as Origins Of The Faeces, October Rust, Bloody Kisses and Dead Again. With his distinct deep low tone and signature metal chain strapped to his bass guitar, Peter Steele was a powerful presence onstage and coupled with his 6'7 frame, he was a sight that was hard to miss as with his voice that sang hits such as Christian Woman, Black No 1 and Love You To Death, among others. RIP Peter Steele, one of the most influential men in modern music and you will always be remembered deep in our hearts
