The G Frame: A Whirlwind Entrance

Dalsix's picture

Starting from next month on every 25th at sdam.sg, there will be a new column that is dedicated specially for those who are into the idea of enjoying macabre dark fashion concepts. Taking charge of the quilt will be our very own local alternative photographer and occasional model Nevar who has undertaken numerous dark alternative photoshoots and has collaborated with like minded photographers such as Razin Razor, producing quality work that maintains darkness to perfection. Without further ado, here is Nevar herself to break the ice and an introduction on what to expect come July- Dalsix Visser

Who am I?

I'm a freelance photographer
who shoots more than just normal works of photography. I focus on alternative fashion
and mostly conceptual shoots and when I'm not shooting human beings, I take photos of just about almost anything you can think of, including the leg of my bed.

The craft of my art
My photography involves usage of dramatic lighting and shadows to portray certain emotions or moods. Other than being behind the camera, I sometimes appear in front of the camera as well although these days I do model regularly for art classes as compared to photographers. I torture my models by making them brave high walls, steps and extreme poses sometimes just to get a good picture. But nevertheless, being part of my shoot is always fun.

My perspective on fashion and the dark alternative culture
Fashion is a way of life just like the goth culture and unless one day all the goths decided to go totally nude on their daily routines else I do not think it is possible to cut fashion off.  In a new fashion season, there are bound to be designers who draw inspiration from the subculture whether it is goth, punk or Lolita. If black is the representative color for goths, there are designers out there who designed their clothes in that particular colour. Let us not forget that black happens to be one of the signature colours for Chanel. Of course, not all goths are totally black and just black as goths are somehow naturally attracted to more mind blowing concepts just like how the late Alexander McQueen blew our blinds with his exotic and out of this world designs.Photography is a form of presentation of something we want the world to see and it is certainly a good channel for goths to let themselves be known to the world. However, we have to admit that goths have brought in a lot of exciting factors to the world of photography. Instead of just posing and looking pretty, they would most probably be doing something that normal models wouldn't really think of doing.

What to expect for The G Frame
Most probably runway fashion pictures that appeal to the goth side of me, not necessary the latest in the season and you might find some articles on funky fashion accessories, clothes or even editorials that never really made its way to the mainstream periodicals here
